school and sport

Paul O'Connell is oficially the lions captain.

This was said on the intercom in our last period. It made me think about how schools think about sport more than they think about the education of these students. Can you imagine a class learning something that may decide what they do in their later life to not be able to learn it because the intercom interrupted him for that minute (hows that for a worst case scenario!)
But even if you look at the school itself, you find that there is on the whole much more advertisement for all things sport than anything else. I missed Scifest (a science competition smaller than the young scientist) because I had no idea when it was on. And yet all students are alerted when Paul O'Connell becomes Lions captain.
And then if you look at school extra-curriculars. I mean to get in to some colleges you need extra curricular and most people, which the colleges know, jump at the chance of kicking a ball around to get into Harvard. (I know, I'm watching to much T.V.) and my school, and I'm pretty sure most schools are like this, has much more sports teams then academic teams.
So, in conclusion, Stop with the big emphasis on sport!!!!

Basketball

I've started playing a random game of basketball with my brother as he has become an obsessed person (give me a better word!) and my mom kinda wants me to join because "basketball makes you taller." yeah right. So anyway, i was playing with my brother and he takes me up on these random rules which, when he plays, he has a loophole to which is basically cheating but... not cheating and hes so tall that he can just dribble close to the net, put his hand over me and, for lack of a better word, plop it in. like, I'll go up to block and hit his hand away from the net and he calls foul. but He'll just block me away with some random loophole. In short the problem with basketball is: to much rules not enough free play!
